GusGus turn Vilnius into a true 1990s rave party, with a surprise ending

Rain fell just before GusGus took the stage in Vilnius, but it did little to dampen the mood. Once the Icelandic electronic group appeared, the clouds cleared, the lights came on and Vasaros Terasa quickly turned into a 1990s dance-music disco.

The concert marked GusGus’s return to Lithuania after a two-year break and launched the group’s European autumn tour. The first two shows of the planned 10-city tour are in Lithuania, with a second performance scheduled for audiences in Kaunas.

The band has built a loyal Lithuanian following over almost two decades. GusGus last played in the country in 2024, and, according to Biggi, the musicians now recognize some of their longtime fans. “The funniest thing is that they somehow always look the same age to me. Probably because I’m growing older together with them,” he joked.

GusGus currently consists of composer and producer Biggi Veira and vocalists Daniel Agust and Margret Ran Magnusdottir. The lineup has changed repeatedly over the group’s more than three decades, bringing new energy and different faces to its music. Margret joined in 2021, and Biggi says her voice fits especially well with the 1990s rave sound that the band has increasingly revisited.

The 1990s influence also shapes the group’s new songs. GusGus performed several of them in Vilnius as a small preview of Rewind & Replay, an album planned for release in spring 2027.
