Gwangmyeong City's Life-Cycle Population Policy Earns Presidential Commendation

Gwangmyeong City has been honored with a presidential award for its innovative population policy, which aims to support citizens throughout their entire lives, from birth to old age.

Mayor Park Seung-won highlighted the city's commitment to a life-cycle approach, integrating services for childbirth, childcare, education, housing, employment, and welfare. This comprehensive strategy has earned the city national recognition.

The city received the Presidential Commendation in the population policy category at the '15th Population Day Commemorative Ceremony' hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Gwangmyeong was particularly lauded for addressing the low birthrate by focusing on enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents.

To ease the burdens of childbirth and child-rearing, Gwangmyeong offers financial support like the 'Baby Joy First Birthday Gift' and 'Baby Joy Ride-on Car,' alongside incentives for fathers' parental leave and medical aid for infertile couples and high-risk pregnancies. The city has also expanded childcare facilities, including experience centers and community care centers, to create a robust support network.

For adolescents, the city provides enrollment congratulatory funds and public transportation subsidies. It also fosters their growth and policy participation through initiatives like the Youth Art Creation Center and a Youth Committee directly under the mayor's office.
