As the June 3 local elections approach, Gyeonggi Province is witnessing a fierce battle for leadership, with several incumbent mayors aiming for an unprecedented fourth term. This pursuit of 'four consecutive terms' (통산 4선), a feat achievable through non-consecutive mandates, highlights a dynamic where seasoned experience clashes with the demand for fresh perspectives.

In Anyang, Mayor Choi Jae-young is campaigning on a platform of completing ongoing changes, arguing that continuity is essential rather than a new face. His path to a potential fourth term is marked by a past electoral setback, but his subsequent re-elections underscore his enduring appeal. Similarly, in Uiwang, Mayor Kim Sung-je, who has navigated party changes and independent runs, is seeking a fourth term under the People Power Party banner.

The northern region of Gyeonggi also sees former mayors making a comeback. Ahn Byung-yong, a former three-term mayor of Uijeongbu, is returning to contest the mayoral seat, aiming to reclaim the position he held for nearly a decade.
