Gyeonggi Province opens first public animal crematorium, 'Banyemaru Memorial Hall'

Gyeonggi Province has launched its first public animal crematorium, the 'Banyemaru Memorial Hall' in Yeoju, marking a significant step in providing dedicated end-of-life services for pets.

The facility, which began full operations on June 1, is located within the larger Banyemaru Yeoju complex. It spans 696 square meters across two floors and is equipped with two animal crematories, three memorial rooms, a preparation room, and a columbarium with a capacity for 408 urns. This makes it the first public animal crematorium in Gyeonggi Province and the second in South Korea.

The memorial hall will be operated under a private contract, with 'Animal Companion Co., Ltd.' selected through a public bidding process. In accordance with the Gyeonggi Province Public Animal Crematorium Management and Operation Ordinance, residents of Gyeonggi Province will receive a 10% discount on cremation fees. Yeoju citizens, national merit recipients, individuals with disabilities, and low-income households will be eligible for a 50% discount.

The Banyemaru Yeoju complex, established in 2023, is described as the largest pet complex in the country, covering 164,932 square meters. It also features a cultural center, an animal shelter and adoption center, and a playground, offering a comprehensive range of facilities for pet owners and their animals.
