Gyeonggi Province Opens 'The Greaves' Promotional Hall at Camp Greaves

Gyeonggi Province and the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization have officially opened 'The Greaves,' a new promotional hall at Camp Greaves, a significant historical and cultural site located within the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). The hall, housed in a remodeled warehouse on the base, aims to offer visitors an immersive experience of Camp Greaves' past.

Designed with a 1950s American cinema theme, 'The Greaves' moves beyond a traditional display of artifacts. It employs a three-stage storytelling structure, opening, highlight, and ending, to create a narrative flow that draws visitors into the history of the former U.S. military base. The "Opening" section recreates the ambiance of a 1950s movie theater entrance, complete with a ticket booth and concession stand, allowing visitors to soak in the retro atmosphere before delving into the main exhibits.

This promotional hall is a space that combines Camp Greaves' unique historical background with the interesting cultural element of a 'cinema.'

The "Highlight" section forms the core of the exhibition. Here, historical photos of the daily lives of U.S. soldiers stationed at the base are presented like frames on a film reel. Visitors can sit in cinema-style seats and watch a projected video detailing the history and past appearance of Camp Greaves, offering a vivid, classic movie-like experience. This section visually connects the base's history with the cinematic theme.

The "Ending" section is designed as an interactive space where visitors can become part of the experience. It features a special photo zone, allowing guests to take memorable pictures as if they were stars of a film, extending the exhibition's immersive quality. Kim Young-ok, head of Gyeonggi Province's DMZ Policy Division, expressed hope that 'The Greaves' will become a popular new destination, offering both educational insights into history and the enjoyment of a retro aesthetic for DMZ visitors.
