Gyeongsan Apartment Arson Victim Dies, Death Toll Rises to 4

A fire that erupted at an apartment complex management office in Gyeongsan, South Korea, has claimed a fourth life, authorities confirmed. The blaze, which began on July 23, was allegedly set by a 71-year-old resident. Initially, eight people, including residents and staff, sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Among the deceased are the apartment's resident representative, a female employee, and another female resident, all in their 50s, who passed away in the weeks following the incident. A fifth victim, a woman in her 50s who was part of the resident committee, died on August 11 while receiving treatment in Daegu.

Police are investigating the fire as a potential planned crime. Investigators believe the incident may have stemmed from accumulated conflicts related to the apartment's management and operations. The motive behind the alleged arson is still under scrutiny as authorities piece together the events leading up to the tragedy.
