Gyeongsangbuk-do forms task force to support Samsung's robot investment in Gumi

Gyeongsangbuk-do Province has launched a public-private task force dedicated to nurturing the regional robot industry ecosystem and maximizing the impact of Samsung's significant investment in robotics in Gumi. The "Gyeongbuk Robot Industry Supply Chain Response TF" aims to create a robust industrial environment by bringing together provincial and local government officials, council members, research institutes, and 11 Gumi-based robot companies.

The task force is structured into six working groups: Strategic Planning, Supply Chain Transition, R&D Discovery, Investment Attraction, Industrial Site, and Corporate Cooperation. These groups will provide tailored administrative support to businesses, covering everything from securing industrial land and identifying new research and development projects to offering investment incentives. This initiative underscores the province's commitment to building a comprehensive support system for the burgeoning robotics sector.

Alongside the task force, Gyeongsangbuk-do has unveiled its "Gyeongbuk Robot Industry Strategy." This five-year plan involves an investment of 486.2 billion won across 15 projects categorized under six strategic areas. The province envisions Gumi as a central hub for supply chains, focusing on parts manufacturing and mass production, while Pohang will be developed as a center for research and development and testing. A key objective is to attract a specialized robot industrial complex to Gumi, further solidifying the region's position in the industry.

The strategy also prioritizes the localization of key components, such as robot batteries, through intensive research and development support. To ease the initial production burden for small and medium-sized enterprises, the province plans to establish open foundries, open manufacturing facilities. Additionally, it will expand support centers for standardization and evaluation, as well as physical AI robot learning centers. The initiative extends to supporting 80 manufacturing companies in building AI factories.
