Haitian-American suspect arrested in Dominican Republic for murder in Haiti

Dominican intelligence agencies have arrested Jean Onel Laureane, a dual Haitian-American citizen wanted in Haiti for his alleged involvement in a murder. The arrest was a joint operation by Dominican intelligence and the Dominican Army's G-2 intelligence department. Laureane was taken into custody and subsequently transferred to the border for formal handover to Haitian authorities. Around 1:00 PM, Laureane was officially delivered to Haitian officials, specifically Commissioner Atenor Leonard of the Haitian Border Police (Polifront) in Juana Méndez. The transfer occurred under strict security measures, highlighting cooperation between the two nations to apprehend fugitives. Haitian authorities reported that Laureane was staying at a hotel in Cabo Haitiano and is accused of killing the establishment's security guard. He will face Haitian judicial bodies to answer the charges against him, with his responsibility to be determined by a competent court under due process and the presumption of innocence.
