Hajduk Split fans set fire to stadium stands after loss in Varaždin

Football fans of Hajduk Split ignited a section of the stands in Varaždin following their team's 2-1 defeat in the Croatian First Football League (HNL). The incident marred the match, which saw Varaždin secure a victory with goals from Mario Mladenovski and Luka Mamić, while Rokas Pukštas scored for Hajduk.

Prior to the game, the ultras group "Torcida" announced a boycott of tickets due to high prices in Varaždin. However, they later rescinded the boycott after the ticket prices were reduced. Despite the change of plans, the post-match events saw a portion of the stands set ablaze by the fans.

Firefighters were called to the scene and spent several minutes extinguishing the fire. The act was described as "truly shameful" and caused considerable disruption and damage to the stadium infrastructure.

The match itself followed a lackluster first half with few scoring opportunities. The second half, however, became more energetic, with all three goals scored within a nine-minute span.
