Halkidiki: Siviri water declared non-potable due to detected microbes

The water supply in Siviri, a settlement in the Halkidiki municipality of Kassandra, has been temporarily deemed unsuitable for human consumption. Microbes were detected in the potable water system during a routine microbiological examination, posing a potential risk to public health, according to the relevant health authority.

The Municipality of Kassandra has issued a notice to residents, informing them of immediate actions being taken based on a directive from the Directorate of Public Health and Social Welfare of the Halkidiki Regional Unit. These actions include the disinfection (chlorination) of the water network, conducting repeat sampling, and laboratory tests to investigate the causes of the microbial contamination.

Until the disinfection process is complete and new test results confirm the water's safety, residents are strongly advised, as a precautionary measure, not to use the tap water for drinking, preparing food, or brushing their teeth. The municipality recommends using bottled water or water that has been thoroughly boiled. The municipality will provide a further announcement once the results of the repeat analyses are available.
