Hamas, Israel give conditions for accepting Trump’s disarmament agreement

Both Hamas and Israel have outlined conditions for a U.S.-brokered disarmament agreement intended to end the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The proposed deal, which President Donald Trump stated would conclude Israel's "genocidal war on Gaza," faces significant hurdles due to conflicting demands.

Hamas, the Palestinian movement, insists that the agreement's implementation hinges on the complete withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Gaza Strip. Conversely, a senior Israeli official told the BBC that Israeli forces will not pull back without the "genuine" disarmament of Hamas and other armed factions.

President Trump announced a "complete disarmament" agreement, which he described as a "monumental step" to be implemented in structured phases. The plan reportedly includes both Hamas's disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. However, when questioned about the order of these events, Trump did not specify whether Hamas's disarmament or Israel's withdrawal would precede the other, only stating that "Israel is very happy" with the disarmament plans.

This agreement is reportedly the second phase of a 20-point plan introduced last October, which previously led to a temporary ceasefire. According to Al Jazeera, Israel violated that ceasefire numerous times, resulting in over 1,200 Palestinian deaths. The new agreement mandates the creation of a disarmament roadmap within 14 days, subject to extensions with international verification and party approval. The process would begin with the entry of a National Committee and the International Stabilization Force into Gaza to oversee disarmament and security.
