Hamas reiterates readiness to implement US-backed Gaza plan

Hamas has declared its readiness to accept the US-backed peace plan for Gaza, provided Israel also agrees to the terms. The militant group is calling on the United States to pressure Israel into adhering to the roadmap. The plan's second phase hinges on Hamas disarming in exchange for a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from Palestinian territories.

A senior Hamas official, speaking anonymously, stated that the group and other factions have informed mediators of their intention to proceed with the second phase, contingent on Israel's approval and implementation. Hamas urged the US government to compel Israel to honor the agreement, according to statements made to Agence France-Presse.

US President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction with Hamas's acceptance of disarmament within the peace framework, which also includes a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, facing an upcoming election in October and significant domestic opposition to the deal, announced his rejection of the plan.

The Israeli army has signaled its intent to continue targeting Hamas, the group it holds responsible for the October 7, 2023 attacks. Despite ongoing operations in Gaza, the intensity of conflict has reportedly decreased in recent days. The Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis reported three injuries from Israeli fire on Saturday. According to the Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry, 1,257 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza since the October ceasefire, while the Israeli army reported five soldiers and one civilian employee dead during the same period.
