Hamburg tenant groups demand building reconstruction after demolition

Tenant associations in Hamburg are demanding the reconstruction of a residential building in Holstenstraße that was partially demolished. Furthermore, the associations urged the Altona district office and the Hamburg Senate to utilize their legal options to permanently secure the housing at this location. "For the people who lived here, the extent of the destruction is hard to comprehend," said Lukas Bowen, a lawyer for the Tenant Association of Hamburg. He emphasized that those affected need swift assistance and a clear prospect of returning to their homes.

Significant defects were discovered in the building several weeks ago, forcing the tenants to evacuate immediately. Demolition work began last week, leading to the evacuation of several neighboring buildings for safety reasons. The tenant associations' demand highlights the urgent need for action to address the housing situation and the damage caused.
