Han In-ok, wife of former Prime Minister Lee Hoi-chang, dies at 88

Han In-ok, the wife of former Prime Minister Lee Hoi-chang, passed away on May 23 at the age of 88. She was a notable figure who provided consistent support and counsel to her husband during his extensive political career.

Born in 1938 in Haman, Gyeongsangnam-do, Han In-ok was the daughter of Han Sung-soo, a former Supreme Court Justice. She pursued higher education at Kyunggi Girls' High School and later graduated from Seoul National University with a degree in Home Economics Education. Her marriage to Lee Hoi-chang took place in 1962.

Throughout Lee Hoi-chang's political endeavors, including his presidential campaigns, Han In-ok was recognized for her stabilizing presence and insightful advice. A notable instance of her influence was her statement during a seminar in 2002 when Lee Hoi-chang was the Grand National Party's presidential candidate. She reportedly said, "Even if the sky splits in two, we must win the presidential election," a remark that garnered significant attention.

She is survived by her two sons and one daughter. The funeral service is being held at Yonsei University Sinchon Severance Hospital in special room No. 2. The 발인 (farewell ceremony) is scheduled for May 26, with the interment to take place at the Gwangneung Memorial Park.
