Han Kuang Exercise: Howitzer Shell Falls from Military Truck in Miaoli

Miaoli County, Taiwan – An 8-inch howitzer shell fell from a military truck participating in the Han Kuang 42 exercise on Saturday afternoon, causing concern but no explosion. The incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. on Provincial Highway 13 in the Touwu section of Zaoqiao Township.

The military vehicle, reportedly carrying artillery shells, was navigating a turn when, for reasons yet to be determined, several 8-inch howitzer shells dislodged and rolled onto the roadway and into a nearby ditch. Fortunately, none of the shells detonated, averting a potential disaster.

Military personnel were immediately dispatched to the scene to manage the situation. They are currently in the process of safely removing the fallen ordnance. Authorities have implemented traffic control measures along the affected stretch of Provincial Highway 13 to ensure public safety and facilitate the operation.

The Han Kuang exercise is Taiwan's largest annual military drill, designed to test the readiness and response capabilities of its armed forces. This incident, while not resulting in casualties or damage, highlights potential logistical challenges during large-scale military maneuvers.
