The Rhein-Neckar Löwen are set to launch their new Handball-Bundesliga season, facing what coach Maik Machulla describes as a "brutal competition." After a significant squad overhaul last year, the team has opted for more targeted reinforcements this season, aiming to improve on their eighth-place finish in the previous campaign.

The club has brought in several new players, including left-back Jacob Lassen from HSV Hamburg, right-back Kentin Mahé from VfL Gummersbach, pivot Aron Seesing from Bergischer HC, right-winger Marius Steinhauser from TSV Hannover-Burgdorf, and young left-winger Niclas Mierzwa from Pfadi Winterthur.

The addition of French Olympic, World, and European champion Kentin Mahé is a notable move. Although Mahé saw less playing time at VfL Gummersbach, the Rhein-Neckar Löwen are enthusiastic about his potential impact. Goalkeeper David Späth highlighted Mahé's experience and skill, noting his ability to remain calm and perform exceptionally in crucial moments.

Späth, along with pivot Jannik Kohlbacher, will lead the team as co-captains, succeeding club legend Patrick Groetzki, who has retired and now works in the club's management. Machulla chose Späth (24) and Kohlbacher (31) for their leadership qualities, stating they are seen and respected as absolute leaders by the team. The Löwen, two-time champions and cup winners, are eager to compete for European qualification after missing out in the last three seasons.
