Handball: HC Hamburg easily reaches second DHB-Pokal round

Handball-Bundesliga team HC Hamburg easily secured their spot in the second round of the DHB-Pokal, defeating third-division side MTV Braunschweig 39:28. The dominant performance saw Nicolaj Jörgensen lead the scoring with eight goals, complemented by an outstanding 13 saves from goalkeeper Robin Haug.

The match, played in Braunschweig, saw HC Hamburg establish a commanding 21:11 lead by halftime, a cushion they maintained throughout the second half to secure a comfortable victory.

In other first-round DHB-Pokal action, VfL Lübeck-Schwartau from the second division defeated TSV Altenholz 37:25. Meanwhile, the financially troubled second-division club HSG Nordhorn-Lingen narrowly lost 37:35 to third-division Longericher SC. HSG Nordhorn-Lingen faces a six-point deduction at the end of the season due to licensing violations.

Erstwhile first-division team TSV Hannover-Burgdorf also advanced, beating TuS Ferndorf 36:29. The draw for the second round, which will include top teams SG Flensburg-Handewitt and THW Kiel, is scheduled for August 30, with matches taking place from September 22 to 24.
