Hanoi's urban face to change fundamentally in two years, says President Tô Lâm

Hanoi is on the cusp of a significant transformation, with General Secretary and President Tô Lâm predicting a "very fundamental" change in the capital's appearance within two years. This optimistic outlook is fueled by extensive urban planning and the swift implementation of major infrastructure projects, including ring roads and underground development.

Lâm emphasized that successful urban renewal hinges on dispersing the population from the densely populated inner city. He noted the high level of public consensus already achieved, citing instances where land was handed over for development even before compensation was finalized. This public support is seen as crucial for realizing ambitious policies.

The president pointed to the ongoing development of detailed and zoning plans, building on a 100-year vision. He highlighted the inclusion of underground infrastructure, an area previously overlooked. The completion of several ring roads by September-October is expected to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion, and mitigate flooding, offering tangible benefits to residents.

Plans also include revitalizing the Ba Dinh political center and enhancing the symbolic spaces around Hoan Kiem Lake to attract both domestic and international visitors.

If the planning is good, shortening the time from the suburbs to the Hoan Kiem Lake area (city center) by about 10-15 minutes, many people in the old quarter will be willing to move out because the living conditions are better, willing to return their houses to the state for design and renovation of architecture.
