Hanwha Chairman Kim Seung-youn spends 3 billion won of personal funds to gift health food to all 69,000 employees

Kim Seung-youn, the chairman of South Korea's Hanwha Group, has personally financed a generous gift of summer health food for all 69,000 domestic employees. The initiative, costing over 3 billion won (approximately $2.2 million), involved sending sets of traditional Korean meals like samgyetang (ginseng chicken soup), galbitang (short rib soup), and seolleongtang (ox bone soup) to employees' homes.

The gesture aims to recognize and encourage the hard work of employees who are dedicated to their roles, especially during the hot summer months. Chairman Kim expressed his deep gratitude for the employees' commitment in a letter accompanying the food sets, stating, "I am deeply grateful for the dedication of all employees who have done their best in their respective positions amidst endless challenges and difficulties." He added, "I hope this small token of my appreciation contributes to the health of your families."

This act of appreciation is seen as a move to boost employee morale and strengthen internal cohesion within the Hanwha Group. It aligns with Chairman Kim's established practice of supporting employees and their families. Since 2004, he has annually sent congratulatory gifts to the children of employees taking the College Scholastic Ability Test, with cumulative recipients reaching approximately 80,000 by last year. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also sent letters and flower baskets to infected employees wishing them a speedy recovery.

Hanwha Group officials emphasized Kim's philosophy that "the health of employees and their families is more important than anything else." They stated that this latest gift reflects Kim's "unchanging affection for employees and their families."
