Harry and Meghan return to the UK, but remain non-working royals

Harry and Meghan are back in the United Kingdom, but the Palace has reaffirmed that they remain non-working royals and private citizens.

At King Charles’s request, the Palace clarified their status in a letter sent to various authorities. The couple will not carry out public duties as working members of the Royal Family. They will also continue to be addressed without the titles His and Her Royal Highness.

The letter said their current position, which gives them financial independence and protects their privacy, remains fully respected. Their charitable work is considered a personal matter, and their status is “comparable to that of private individuals pursuing economic and charitable interests.”

Harry and Meghan returned to Britain with their children, Archie and Lilibet, at the end of August. Reports have suggested that they moved to the Cotswolds, a rural region west of London.

The couple left the inner circle of the Royal Family in early 2020 and settled in California. Their relationship with other royals is considered strained in parts. Relations with King Charles have reportedly improved, while Harry’s relationship with his older brother, Prince William, is described as deeply damaged.
