Harvest begins for geographically indicated Kamber Biberi pepper in Bilecik

The harvest of Kamber Biberi, a pepper variety recognized with geographical indication, has commenced in the Geçitli village of Bilecik's Söğüt district. This pepper was officially registered with its place of origin on June 1, 2026, solidifying its status as a protected product.

Governor Sözer engaged with local villagers and producers after the harvest program, listening to their requests and suggestions. He highlighted that Kamber Biberi is widely grown in Bilecik and has preserved its original qualities since the Ottoman period, with production continuing without the use of hybrid seeds.

In Geçitli village, the center for commercial production, 50 producers cultivate Kamber Biberi across roughly 100 decares. The pepper's thick flesh makes it a versatile ingredient, favored for fresh consumption as well as for stuffing, frying, and pickling.
