‘He has no electoral value’ - Wike mocks Bode

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has strongly criticized Chief Bode George, a former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), asserting that George possesses no electoral value and has failed to secure victories for the party in Lagos State since 1999.

Wike stated he has no regrets about preventing George from assuming the position of PDP National Chairman. He explained that the party leadership's decision was based on ensuring rotation, as it was the turn of the South-South geopolitical zone. Wike recounted an incident where he attempted to appease George after the national convention, but was nearly rebuffed by George's wife, requiring intervention from former Ondo State governor Olusegun Mimiko.

"His anger is because we didn’t allow him to be PDP National Chairman and no regret doing so," Wike said in a statement released by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka. "We stopped him because it was the turn of the South-South. Since then, he has not stopped being angry."

The minister argued that political leadership within a party is determined by the ability to win elections, not by title or founding status. He labeled George as "a complete disaster" in this regard, citing specific polling unit results. Wike claimed George has never won his own polling unit, Unit 001 in Ward E2, Evans Street, Lagos Island, for the PDP. He pointed to the 2019 presidential election where the APC received 84 votes versus the PDP's 40 at that unit, and noted that in 2023, after George transferred his voter's card, the PDP garnered only four votes at his former unit.

Wike concluded that George's perceived political frustration would keep him and his associates busy, likely engaging in public debates. "We have managed him even though we know that he has no value. But as it is, since he wants to keep dancing naked in the market place of politics, we can’t but allow him," Wike added.
