Head of Red Petroleum Released from Pre-Trial Detention; Court Changes Restrictive Measure

In a significant development from Bishkek, the Pervomaysky District Court has altered the pre-trial detention measure for Akylbek Mamatov, the general director of the Red Petroleum gas station network. This decision, made on April 17 following a request from the investigation, sees Mamatov released from custody and placed under a recognizance not to leave, effectively restricting his movements within the country.

Mamatov had been held in pre-trial detention center SIZO-1 since April 15. He is currently involved in a legal case pertaining to Article 41-337, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, which deals with complicity in the abuse of official position. The specifics of the case and the evidence leading to his initial detention remain under investigation.

Adding a layer of context to the proceedings, it is noted that Akylbek Mamatov is the son of Abdymuktar Mamatov, a former deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh (parliament) for the V and VI convocations. This familial connection may draw further attention to the case, given the political background of his father.

The court's decision to change the measure of restraint indicates a potential shift in the investigation's approach or a re-evaluation of the necessity for Mamatov's continued incarceration.
