Head-on crash on Irish motorway kills 5 teenagers, injures 4

Five teenagers died and four others were seriously injured in a horrific head-on collision on Ireland's M9 motorway. The crash occurred early on the 16th near Junction 3 in County Kildare.

Reports indicate that a car carrying the five teenagers was traveling the wrong way on the motorway when it collided with an oncoming vehicle. All five teenagers in the first car were killed instantly. Their bodies have been transferred to Naas General Hospital for post-mortem examinations.

The second vehicle, occupied by a family, sustained severe damage. The female driver and a front-seat passenger, both in their 30s, are in critical condition and receiving treatment at Tallaght University Hospital. Two other passengers in the rear of the car, a woman in her 20s and a child, suffered serious injuries and are being treated at St. Luke's General Hospital and the Children's Health Ireland hospital, respectively.

Irish police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, particularly how the vehicle ended up traveling in the wrong direction on the busy motorway.
