Heavy Rain Warnings Issued for Three Taiwan Cities; Severe Downpours Possible South of Yunlin

Taiwan is bracing for heavy rainfall today, with weather authorities issuing warnings for three cities and anticipating severe downpours south of Yunlin this afternoon. The island is situated within a low-pressure system, contributing to abundant moisture and the development of strong convective clouds.

This morning, localized heavy showers were reported in areas including Keelung's North Coast, New Taipei, Yilan, and Penghu. The Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued heavy rain advisories for Keelung City, Yilan County, and Penghu County. The forecast indicates a shift in wind direction from southwest to east, bringing intermittent localized showers to the eastern parts of the island. Mountainous areas can expect scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon, with sporadic showers also possible along the Keelung North Coast and in the greater Taipei region.

Western Taiwan is expected to be mostly cloudy with scattered brief showers in the morning and localized afternoon thunderstorms. The probability of rain is higher for areas south of Hsinchu, where localized heavy showers are likely. Yunlin and areas further south could even experience short-duration torrential rainfall.

Temperatures are predicted to range from 32 to 35 degrees Celsius across the island, with some areas in central and northern Taiwan, as well as Hualien, potentially reaching 36 degrees or higher, leading to muggy conditions. Looking ahead, the low-pressure system is expected to persist through the week, bringing intermittent showers and thunderstorms to various regions, with a continued risk of heavy rainfall, particularly in southern and eastern Taiwan.
