Health update for Mauricio Núñez and his children this Saturday, August 15

The Núñez family provided an update Saturday on the health of singer Mauricio Núñez Acurio and his children, María José and Mauricio Javier Núñez Lozada, following a serious traffic accident. All three remain under specialized medical care after sustaining multiple injuries and undergoing surgical procedures.

Mauricio Núñez Acurio suffered high-velocity politraumatism, closed thoracic trauma, left hemopneumothorax, and multiple left rib fractures. On Thursday, August 13, he underwent extensive surgery lasting about five hours. This included a bronchoscopy, left lateral minithoracotomies, costal osteosynthesis with titanium clips on the third and fourth ribs, intercostal nerve blocks, and the placement of thoracic and Jackson-Pratt drains. He later had reconstructive plastic surgery on his left leg and forehead, which took approximately three hours.

María José Núñez Lozada sustained a scalp wound and fractures in multiple areas of both lower limbs. On Friday, August 14, she underwent several surgical procedures. A right femur fracture was treated with open reduction and osteosynthesis using cannulated screws and a right hip neutralization plate. A closed reduction under image intensification and a plaster cast were applied for a tibia and fibula fracture in her left leg. A 12-centimeter scalp wound was also surgically addressed with exploration, cleaning, debridement, and foreign body removal. These interventions lasted about four hours and reportedly proceeded without complications.

Mauricio Javier Núñez Lozada sustained a traumatic brain injury and head wounds. He underwent plastic surgery early Thursday, August 13, to explore the wounds, remove foreign bodies, and perform surgical cleaning and debridement. The family continues to monitor their recovery closely.
