Hearts Beat as One: Jász World Meeting Celebrates Heritage and Community

The heart of the Jászság region beats as one during its annual world meeting, an event that celebrates the deep-seated sense of identity and belonging cherished by both residents and those who have moved away. While each surrounding village boasts its own unique treasures, a special, shared bond connects them all.

This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Jász world meeting, an occasion where everyday worries fade, replaced by the joy of communal celebration. The festivities include a culinary journey, featuring traditional dishes like "pincepörkölt" and the distinct "pandúrgulyás," prepared by the Boldog Bográcsok team. The story behind "pandúrgulyás" is a testament to improvisation, born from an unexpected visit by foreign delegates to the Lehel Gyöngye restaurant.

Complementing the food is an array of local pálinkas, showcasing the region's finest fruit spirits, from apple and quince to cherry and plum, even including the rare "borzag." Before indulging, participants engage in a "people's Olympics," a playful competition that tests skills in jump rope, potato planting, and target throwing. Firefighters have also designed challenges, such as hose running and identifying equipment blindfolded, adding a competitive edge.

Water polo also plays a role, with Tibor Balogh, known as Tibi bácsi, demonstrating his "Magic of the Ball" program, which teaches children to swim through water polo. Olympic water polo champion Zoltán Kósz is also present, offering advice to the young participants. Kósz, who cherishes the Hungarian countryside, was invited to the world meeting by Tibi bácsi and proudly showcased their water polo activities.
