Heat up to 42 degrees and thunderstorms: forecasters warn Kazakhstanis

Kazakhstan is facing a severe weather event, with forecasters warning of intense heat and dangerous atmospheric conditions across the country. Temperatures are predicted to soar, reaching as high as 40-42 degrees Celsius in the northern and central areas of Almaty Region, as well as in Konaev.

Across different regions, residents can expect a mix of severe weather phenomena. Rain accompanied by thunderstorms is forecast for the night in the north and east of Akmola Region, and in the west, north, and east of East Kazakhstan Region. Hail and squalls are anticipated during the day in the north, east, and center of Abai Region, as well as in the north, east, and south of Aktobe Region. Strong winds, with gusts reaching 15-20 meters per second and sometimes up to 23 meters per second, will accompany these conditions in many areas.

Adding to the volatile weather, high to extreme fire danger levels have been declared across several regions. The east, south, and center of Abai Region face a high fire danger, while the northeast is under an extreme risk. Similarly, the west of Akmola Region and the north of Aktobe Region are at extreme risk, with the overall fire danger in Aktobe assessed as extreme for the day. The north, west, and south of Almaty Region are also under extreme fire danger warnings.

The forecast indicates a challenging period for many Kazakh citizens, with the combination of intense heat, severe storms, and heightened fire risks requiring significant public awareness and preparedness.
