Heathrow Airport Warns of Major Disruption Due to Flooding

Heathrow Airport has issued a warning of significant disruption due to flooding, which has severely restricted road access to Terminals 2 and 3. The central terminal area is inundated with water, preventing any road travel to or from these terminals. In response, the airport is strongly advising passengers to opt for rail and tube services and to avoid using cars altogether. "Our teams are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, we apologise for any disruption caused," an airport statement released early Saturday read.

This disruption is particularly problematic as it coincides with the school holidays, a period typically marked as one of the busiest for the airport. Heathrow recently experienced its busiest day of the year so far on July 19, when schools began their summer break, with a total of 267,000 passengers passing through its facilities. The airport has also recently dealt with disruptions to railway services following a water leak that led to the closure of a tunnel. The airport is actively working to address the flooding and minimize the impact on travelers during this peak season.
