Heating Allowance: Second Installment Details and Increased Amounts Revealed

Recipients of Greece's heating allowance are anticipating the second payment installment this week. This disbursement covers fuel purchases made up to April 15, 2026, provided these purchases were declared by April 30, 2026.

During the initial phase of the program, about 60% of the total allocated amount for the 2024-2025 winter period was distributed. The subsequent payment is scheduled for completion by the end of the current month. For those utilizing natural gas and district heating, the final payment deadline is set for July 31, 2026.

Overall, the heating allowance program is designed to assist more than 1.2 million households, with a total budget of 195 million euros. The individual allowance amounts vary significantly, ranging from a base of 100 euros to a maximum of 800 euros. For households in areas experiencing particularly low temperatures, this amount can increase up to 1,200 euros.

The calculation of the allowance involves a reference amount multiplied by a climate coefficient, with an additional 20% increase for each dependent child. Households in locations with a climate coefficient of 1 or higher receive a 25% supplement, capped at 1,000 euros. For areas with a coefficient of 1.2 or higher, the supplement increases by an additional 25%, reaching a maximum of 1,200 euros. Recipients must choose only one type of fuel for their allowance: heating oil, district heating, or electricity.

Potential payment difficulties may arise for individuals who declared a bank account (IBAN) registered under a different name than the applicant, such as a spouse. The IBAN declaration must be completed before finalizing the application through the 'IBAN Account Declaration' platform on the AADE's digital portal.
