Heatwave in Greece: Temperatures to reach 36°C on Tuesday, rain returns later in the week

Greece is set for a summer-like weather pattern in the coming days, with widespread sunshine and temperatures remaining high for this time of year. On Tuesday, the mercury is expected to reach up to 36 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Despite the heat, localized rain showers and isolated thunderstorms are anticipated in the northern continental regions during the afternoon. The forecast for Tuesday indicates scattered clouds in the Ionian and western, central, and northern continental parts of the country, with clouds thickening at times. The rest of the country will generally be clear with sunshine throughout the day. Winds will be variable, mainly from the west at 2 to 4 Beaufort, reaching up to 5 Beaufort in the south.

Starting Wednesday and into Thursday, weather instability is expected to increase temporarily across many continental areas. This will be accompanied by a slight drop in temperature, although it will remain relatively high for the season. On Wednesday, the weather will start generally clear with some local clouds, but continental clouds will gradually increase, leading to local rain or showers after midday, with isolated thunderstorms possible in central and northern parts. The islands will mostly see sunshine with some clouds, mainly in the Ionian Sea.

Thursday will begin almost clear, with some clouds and local rain expected in the Sporades and Evia. From midday onwards, clouds will develop across the mainland, bringing local rain. Winds in the Aegean will reach up to 6 Beaufort, while elsewhere they will be northerly at 3 to 5 Beaufort. Temperatures will continue to drop slightly but remain high, reaching 30-32 degrees Celsius in most areas and 33-34 degrees Celsius locally in continental regions.
