Heavy rain forecast across South Korea, with more than 200 mm possible in Chungcheong

Rain will fall across most of South Korea on Monday, with the heaviest downpours expected in Chungcheong, southern Gyeonggi, southern Gangwon and Jeonbuk.

The Korea Meteorological Administration forecast 80 to 150 millimeters of rain in Daejeon, Sejong and South Chungcheong, with more than 200 millimeters possible in some areas. Southern Gyeonggi and southern Gangwon could receive more than 120 millimeters, while parts of western Jeonbuk could see similar totals.

Strong winds, thunder and lightning may accompany the rain. Authorities advised people to take precautions against accidents and to check vulnerable facilities.

The forecast high temperatures range from 24 to 34 degrees Celsius. Southern areas and Jeju, where heat advisories remain in effect, could see perceived temperatures around 33 degrees. Tropical nights are also expected in some areas along the southern coast and on Jeju. Air quality is forecast to remain at good levels nationwide.
