Heavy rain spreads across Denmark, nearing cloudburst intensity in the west

Denmark is experiencing a significant shift in weather as heavy rain moves in from the west, bringing conditions that are nearing cloudburst intensity in some areas. The Danish Meteorological Institute (DMI) has issued warnings for Friday, with Western and Central Jutland seeing the most substantial rainfall so far.

In Bækmarksbro, located in the Lemvig Municipality, over 41 millimeters of rain have fallen since midnight. A particularly intense period saw 14 millimeters of rain in just 30 minutes, a rate very close to the threshold for a cloudburst. This intense rainfall highlights the localized severity of the weather system.

The rain is forecast to spread across the rest of the country throughout Friday. DMI expects significant amounts of rain in northern and eastern parts of Denmark as well. Meteorologists caution that the showers could be heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, posing a risk of localized flooding.

This change in weather coincides with several major events scheduled for Friday evening, including the DHL Relay in Copenhagen and the opening of Aarhus's festival week. While the exact path of the heaviest showers remains uncertain, attendees are advised to be prepared for wet conditions. The current rainfall marks a transition from the recent sunny late summer weather to conditions more typical of autumn, with unsettled weather expected in the coming days.
