Heavy rain, strong winds sweep across South Korea

The Hankyoreh reports on the approaching low-pressure system bringing significant rainfall and strong winds to the Korean peninsula. As a result, most regions nationwide will experience precipitation, with central areas and Jeju Island bracing for particularly heavy downpours and gusts.

The Korea Meteorological Administration has issued advisories, urging caution due to the potential for sudden increases in river levels and advising against camping or approaching waterways. The forecast highlights the risk of localized heavy rainfall, with some areas expected to receive over 100mm, and even exceeding 150mm in mountainous regions of Gangwon Province.

In addition to the rain, strong winds are anticipated across the country, with Jeju Island potentially experiencing gusts exceeding 70 km/h, leading to the possibility of a strong wind advisory. This weather shift marks a noticeable drop in temperatures, with daytime highs expected to be around 10 degrees Celsius lower than the previous day. The weather is expected to clear up gradually by Thursday, with most of the country enjoying clear skies by Friday, except for Jeju Island.
