Hyundai Motor Group and Oman sign agreement on clean mobility

Hyundai Motor Group and Oman are joining forces to accelerate the country’s shift toward carbon neutrality and expand sustainable mobility. The agreement was signed at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Complex in Salalah with Oman’s Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology and Omco, the energy distributor of state-owned OQ.

The first projects will target public transport and public services. Oman’s state transport company, Mwasalat, plans to designate a clean-vehicle route called the Green Route on Muscat’s public transport network. Hyundai’s Elec City hydrogen fuel-cell buses will operate there on a trial basis, marking Oman’s first introduction of hydrogen city buses.

Omco will work through EVO, its clean-charging infrastructure subsidiary, to install and operate Hyundai Kefico 240-kilowatt ultra-fast electric-vehicle chargers at Omco-operated fuel stations. A six-month field demonstration will evaluate charging performance and user demand, helping establish a basis for expanding the charging network.

Hyundai Motor Group said it plans to extend the business beyond public transport into Oman’s wider commercial-vehicle and passenger-car markets. Jung Ho-geun, vice president and head of the group’s Future Strategy Office, said the companies would work to turn their cooperation into practical results in smart cities and future mobility.
