Heavy Rains and Winds Cause Damage Across 15 Romanian Counties and Bucharest

Romania is grappling with the aftermath of severe weather events that have impacted 15 counties and the capital, Bucharest, over the past 24 hours. The Department for Situations of Emergency (DSU) reported that emergency services intervened in numerous locations to address the damage caused by heavy rains and strong winds.

Interventions included pumping water from 13 houses, 36 courtyards, and 15 basements. Additionally, emergency crews cleared fallen trees from roads, including two national roads in Neamț County (DN 15 and DN 15B), which temporarily disrupted traffic. Damage was also reported to eight trees and one apartment building roof, with four vehicles affected.

As of Friday, rescue teams continued operations in Drăgănești-Olt, where significant water accumulation occurred due to abundant rainfall. Authorities are maintaining constant monitoring and are prepared to respond to further predicted meteorological phenomena. The DSU urged the public to avoid unnecessary travel during dangerous weather, seek safe shelter, and stay clear of potential hazards like trees and power poles.
