Heavy Rains Leave Two Injured After Lightning Strikes Tree in Mexico City

Heavy rain caused flooding and fallen trees across Mexico City on Sunday, while two people suffered injuries after lightning struck a tree in Iztacalco.

The city’s Secretariat of Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection worked at Puente Quemado and Cda. Paso Texas in the Sideral neighborhood of Iztapalapa, where standing water stretched for 100 meters and reached 15 centimeters deep. Officials said there was no major damage at the site.

In Iztacalco, crews responded to flooding at Sur 12 and Oriente 257 in Agrícola Oriental. Water covered about 150 meters and reached 20 centimeters. Workers released hydraulic equipment to lower the water level. Another flooded area at Eje 4 Oriente and Avenida Río Churubusco measured about 30 meters across and 15 centimeters deep in the yard of a home built below street level. City and borough crews used pumps and carried out cleanup work.
