Herat Province Produces 80 Tonnes of Fresh Milk Daily, Boosting Local Economy

Herat province, located in western Afghanistan, is a significant producer of fresh milk, generating about 80 tonnes each day for distribution to local markets. Mohammad Saber Amani, the Dairy Development Manager at the Herat Department of Agriculture, reported a substantial expansion in livestock farming within the province in recent years.

Up to 80 tonnes of fresh milk are produced daily and distributed to local markets for consumption.

This daily output of 80 tonnes of fresh milk is handled by a network of 10 dairy processing plants and approximately 180 dairy shops operating throughout Herat. These facilities ensure the milk reaches consumers across the province.

The growth of the livestock sector has increased fresh milk production and created employment opportunities for hundreds of families.

Amani highlighted that the growth in the livestock sector has not only increased the volume of fresh milk production but has also generated employment opportunities for hundreds of families. He emphasized the sector's vital role in meeting domestic demand through local production and in bolstering the province's overall agricultural economy.
