Herdman wants Indonesia to maintain positive momentum after back-to-back wins

Indonesian national football team coach John Herdman is focused on sustaining the team's positive momentum following two consecutive victories during the recent FIFA Match Day. The team defeated Mozambique 1-0 with a goal from Ole Romeny, four days after a 3-0 win against Oman.

"For the team's development, we always talk about momentum. These two consecutive wins are very important," Herdman stated in a post-match press conference. He noted that such a streak had not been achieved since March 2024, when the team, then coached by Shin Tae-yong, secured two wins against Vietnam. Prior to that, the team had a similar success in October 2023 against Brunei Darussalam.

Herdman highlighted the significance of these wins, especially against teams ranked higher than Indonesia. "We haven't done it since 2024, let alone against two teams ranked higher than us," he said. The coach stressed the challenge ahead: "Now we have momentum. The next challenge is to maintain this positive trend until September and October (international matches/FIFA Match Day). That is the standard we want to build."

The coach expressed satisfaction with his team's ability to overcome Mozambique's transitional playing style. Despite acknowledging that the Indonesian team was sometimes drawn into a "chaotic" game, Herdman was pleased they secured the win. He also pointed out areas for improvement, noting the team's lack of sharpness in finishing, with only three of 15 shots on target against Mozambique.
