Here are Egypt’s new electricity tariff rates following increase

Egypt's Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy has announced a new structure for residential electricity tariffs, effective in 2026. The adjustment includes a comprehensive restructuring of consumption brackets, with an average increase of approximately 12 percent applied to most tiers. This move aims to ensure the sustainability of electricity supply and reduce the government's funding gap.

The ministry has kept the prices for the first consumption bracket, covering usage from 0 to 50 kilowatt-hours, unchanged at 68 piasters per kWh. Consumers in this tier continue to receive substantial government subsidies, covering up to 75 percent of the actual production and distribution costs. However, subsequent brackets will see price hikes.

For instance, the second bracket (51-100 kWh) increases by about 21.8 percent, from 78 to 95 piasters per kWh. The third bracket (101-200 kWh) rises by 21.1 percent, from 95 to 115 piasters per kWh. The fourth bracket (201-350 kWh) sees an 11 percent increase, moving from 155 to 172 piasters per kWh. The fifth bracket (351-650 kWh) increases by 11.8 percent, from 195 to 218 piasters per kWh.

The new strategy also imposes prices that closely reflect or match the actual cost for high consumption. The sixth bracket (over 650 kWh) increases by 14.3 percent, from 210 to 240 piasters per kWh. The seventh bracket (over 1000 kWh) sees a 6.2 percent increase, from 258 to 274 piasters per kWh, representing the full cost of purchasing and producing fuel. All previous subsidy forms have been eliminated for this top tier, with subscribers billed directly for their total consumption from the first kWh.
