A new Swedish television series, "Svärtan" (The Darkness), is set to captivate audiences when it premieres on Svt Play on July 24. Based on the acclaimed novel "Sommaren 1985" by John Ajvide Lindqvist, known for his dense and dark narratives, the series promises a visually compelling adaptation.

Directed and written in part by Amy Deasismont, "Svärtan" unfolds as a coming-of-age thriller. The story is set against the backdrop of the Stockholm archipelago during the summer of 1985. It centers on Johannes and his group of friends as they grapple with the turbulent transitions of puberty, including identity crises and anxieties.

The already fragile dynamics of the group are further shaken by the appearance of a mysterious death within their circle. Adding another layer of intrigue, the friends also encounter a wounded, supernatural creature, which they collectively decide to take under their care. This decision is expected to introduce complex challenges and supernatural elements into their already tumultuous adolescent lives.
