Hezbollah Weapons, Explosives Found in Beirut Residential Neighborhood

Lebanese security forces have seized weapons, explosives, and communications equipment from a Hezbollah member's apartment and warehouse in Beirut. The discovery has renewed scrutiny of the group's security presence in the capital, as the state attempts to assert its monopoly on arms. The raid followed a domestic dispute in the Ras al-Nabaa district, where the suspect allegedly shot at his father-in-law's home, wounding a relative.

During the subsequent search of the apartment and a commercial warehouse, officers found assault rifles, detonators, explosives, and rocket-propelled grenade rounds. Surveillance equipment and maps of Beirut neighborhoods were also recovered. The suspect, identified as H.J., reportedly acknowledged his membership in Hezbollah during initial questioning.

The investigation is examining the purpose and intended use of the seized munitions, particularly their storage in a densely populated residential area. This case presents a challenge to a recent government decision banning Hezbollah's military and security activities within Beirut. It also occurs amid broader calls to disarm the capital.
