Hidalgo electoral institute revokes Espacio Hidalgo’s registration after party falls 457 members short

Espacio Hidalgo lost its registration in Hidalgo after falling 457 valid members short of the minimum required by state electoral law.

The State Electoral Institute of Hidalgo said the party needed to prove at least 6,212 members, equivalent to 0.26% of the voter roll used in the previous election. Its review accepted 5,755 valid affiliations from a roll of 2,389,081 people.

The decision came after the institute completed a periodic review of local parties’ membership. Authorities counted only affiliations classified as valid in March of this year. Espacio Hidalgo, represented by Esperanza Flores Rojo, received notice of the finding and an opportunity to respond and submit documents addressing the inconsistencies.

After reviewing the party’s statements, the electoral authority concluded that Espacio Hidalgo still had not reached the required number. The loss of registration means the party no longer holds the rights and public benefits available to a local political organization.

The institute also opened liquidation proceedings for the party’s assets. It will appoint an intervenor to administer the organization’s property and resources, including funds allocated for this fiscal year. The resolution will be notified to Mexico’s National Electoral Institute and to the state and federal electoral tribunals.
