“I’m not going to comment”: Daniel Asaf avoids questions about Andy López Beltrán meeting

Daniel Asaf had a brief answer when asked about the meeting that brought him together with Andy López Beltrán, Gonzalo López Beltrán and two businessmen: “Thank you, thank you, I’m sorry, no, I’m not going to comment.”

The Morena federal lawmaker and former head of the Presidential Assistance Office under Andrés Manuel López Obrador refused to discuss the gathering after Monday’s preparatory session in Congress. He approached the exit but offered no explanation about what had been discussed.

The meeting took place at Magazzino restaurant in Mexico City’s Condesa neighborhood. Those present reportedly discussed the Aug. 19 detention of Fausto Corrales Rodríguez, who worked as driver and personal assistant to Héctor Melesio Cuén, former rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. Corrales was described as a key witness in Cuén’s killing.

Juan Domingo Beckmann, Mauricio Garduño and Gonzalo López Beltrán also attended the gathering. Asaf’s refusal leaves the reported discussion as the only detail publicly associated with the meeting.
