HIFK suffer a harsh beating in Turku

HIFK's winning start to the Finnish league season quickly became a distant memory in Turku. TPS showed little hospitality on Saturday, putting five goals past the Helsinki side.

Both teams had opened the season with victories, but the match was effectively settled after the first period. TPS scored twice on the power play, and Niklas Friman completed a dominant opening period with a 3-0 goal 18 seconds before the horn. HIFK managed only two shots on the TPS goal during the period.

The game became more even in the second period, and Vincent Marleau briefly raised HIFK's hopes with a consolation goal. Aatos Koivu's power-play strike ended the visitors' attempt to fight back. Lars Bryggman then added his second goal of the night in the final period.

Bryggman finished with four points, going 2+2, while Wernblom contributed 1+3. TPS goalkeeper Eetu Mäkiniemi faced only 16 shots. HIFK's Hugo Alnefelt made 23 saves, with an 82.1 percent save rate. HIFK's season continues Wednesday away against Jukurit in Mikkeli.
