High demand for AI model Kimi K3; new subscriptions halted

Moonshot AI, a company aiming to compete with U.S. artificial intelligence giants like OpenAI and Anthropic, has temporarily suspended new subscriptions for its Kimi K3 model. The decision comes after the AI model experienced an unprecedented surge in demand shortly after its public release last week.

In a statement released via its social media account on X, formerly Twitter, Moonshot AI explained that the Kimi K3 model has garnered far more interest than projected over the past 48 hours. This overwhelming response has placed a significant strain on the company's processing infrastructure.

To ensure a stable experience for its current users, Moonshot AI has decided to prioritize existing subscribers. New subscription sign-ups have been put on hold as the company works diligently to scale up its capacity. The company assured users that those already subscribed will not be affected by this temporary measure.

Moonshot AI stated, "We are increasing our capacity as quickly as possible and will reopen new subscription quotas in batches." The Kimi K3 model is noted for its impressive capabilities, reportedly boasting 2.8 trillion parameters, positioning it as one of the world's largest open-source AI models.
