High Fuel Prices: BSW Party Holds State Government Responsible

Claudia Wittig, the top candidate for the BSW party, has placed responsibility on the state government of Saxony-Anhalt to provide relief to drivers facing soaring fuel prices. She is urging Minister-President Sven Schulze to demand an immediate summit with federal and state leaders at the Chancellery.

Wittig criticized the federal government's recent statement that it would not implement new measures despite high prices, following the expiration of previous relief packages. "It is an outrage that the Minister-President and the Federal Chancellor are leaving people out in the cold on fuel prices," Wittig stated, calling the situation "existential" for many citizens and businesses.

She proposed capping fuel prices at 1.50 euros per liter. Data from ADAC shows that prices have surged since the beginning of July. On Sunday, Super E10 gasoline averaged 2.152 euros per liter nationwide, while diesel cost 2.177 euros per liter.

The federal government's fuel tax discount, which reduced taxes by about 17 cents per liter, ended on June 30. While the government stated it is monitoring the situation, it currently sees no need for further relief measures.
