High school student drowns in pond while seeking relief from heat

A tragic incident unfolded in Karaman, Turkey, where 15-year-old high school student Ismail Aktaş drowned in the Yollarbaşı Pond. Aktaş had gone to the pond with two friends to cool off during the midday heat.

While two of the friends managed to exit the water safely, Aktaş remained submerged. His friends, realizing he was missing, alerted authorities. Emergency services, including gendarmerie, health personnel, and AFAD teams, were dispatched to the scene.

Diving teams conducted a search and located Aktaş's lifeless body. The recovery of his body was met with intense grief from his relatives who had gathered at the pond's edge, with some experiencing emotional breakdowns. His body was transported to the Karaman Application and Research Hospital morgue for an autopsy following preliminary examinations at the site. The gendarmerie has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the drowning.
