Highlights: Vietnam U20 Lose 3-1 to Iran and Miss Asian Championship

Vietnam U20 opened the scoring against Iran but conceded three goals after halftime and lost 3-1 in the final match of Group C qualifying for the 2027 AFC U20 Asian Cup.

Playing at Viet Tri Stadium in Phu Tho on September 6, Vietnam showed determination in the first half and took the lead in the 40th minute. Nguyen Quoc Khanh received the ball on the left, created space and surprised goalkeeper Amirmahdi Maghsoudi with a shot from a tight angle. The ball went through the goalkeeper’s legs to make it 1-0.

Iran quickly leveled after the break. In the 50th minute, Amirmohammad Karimi delivered a powerful throw-in into the penalty area, and Arian Maali reacted quickly to beat Hoa Xuan Tin.

Iran then earned two penalties and converted both. Mahan Beheshti calmly sent Hoa Xuan Tin the wrong way from the spot in the 63rd minute, putting Iran ahead. In the fourth minute of stoppage time, Abolfazl Zadeh Attar converted another penalty after a Vietnam player committed a foul in the box, sealing the 3-1 win.

The defeat left Vietnam with three losses from three matches, last place in Group C and no route to the 2027 tournament. The qualifying competition ran from August 31 to September 6, with 31 teams divided among eight groups. The eight group winners and seven best runners-up will join host China at the finals.
