Historian Geert Mak: US leadership is very close to Putin now

Geert Mak, a Dutch author, has released a new book titled "Mellommannen – USA og Europa i de avgjørende årene 1933–1945" (The Intermediary – USA and Europe in the Decisive Years 1933–1945). The book focuses on Harry Hopkins, a largely unknown figure in Europe, who served as President Franklin D. Roosevelt's closest advisor. Hopkins played a crucial role in implementing the New Deal, Roosevelt's program to combat the Great Depression. He also acted as Roosevelt's principal foreign policy advisor throughout World War II. Mak, speaking at Litteraturhuset in Oslo, addressed the book's themes and historical interpretations. During the discussion, Mak specifically refuted the theory suggesting a Norwegian princess held significant sway over President Roosevelt. The author, known for his historical works, presented his research on Hopkins' pivotal role in shaping American policy during a critical period of global conflict and economic turmoil.
